Chapter Fifteen

“Jet handed me off to Barracuda. He’s the prez of the Sacramento chapter of the Royal Bastards.”

“What’s the reason for that?” Dyno asked Quinn.

“Because there’s some shit going on with the Bastards that lines up directly with the problem we’re having with the Devil’s Rebels.” Quinn sat back in his chair. “Barracuda didn’t go into a lot of detail, but it seems that a chick associated with the Bastards was taken by the Devil’s and now they trying to get her back.”

“The Devil’s Rebels seem like one hell of a club,” Point muttered.

“The type of club you don’t want to get on the wrong side of, that’s for sure,” Zephyr pointed out.

“But that’s exactly where we are.” Quinn laid his hand on the table. “The Bastards are having a better time of talking to the Rebels than we are. They at least have a line of communication going on with them.”

“How’d they get that?” Sledge asked.

“Bastards own a string of strip clubs along the coast of Cali. Seems the prez of the Rebels has a thing for one of the girls who strips. With the Bastards owning the club, the Rebels are more open to them.” Quinn shrugged. “That doesn’t mean they are on the best of terms, but it means they have a small piece of common ground as long as the prez of the Rebels doesn’t move on from the girl.”

“Or he doesn’t decide to just fucking take the girl.” Dyno shook his head. “That seems to be their MO.”

“They having any luck getting the girl back the Rebels took?” Point asked.

Quinn shook his head. “She was taken to pay a debt. What that debt is, I don’t know, but Barracuda sounded pretty fucking frustrated when he talked about it.”

I scrubbed my hand down my face. “Well, it’s nice to know we’re not the only club the Rebels are fucking with.”

“Barracuda has a meeting with the prez of the Rebels next week. He said he’ll bring us up and see if he can get anywhere.” Quinn tapped his fingers on the table.

“Next fucking week?” Zephyr complained. “These guys sure do like to take their fucking time, don’t they?”

Dyno shrugged. “When the ball is in their court, they can take however long they want.”

Sledge tossed the burner phone we had found on the floor of Petra’s closet. “Not a fucking peep on this thing the whole week.”

Quinn shook his head. “This shit is damn frustrating.”

“So, we’re in the same place we were last time. We wait around like fucking sitting ducks waiting to be attacked again.” Point tossed his head back and groaned. “This is utter bullshit.”

The phone on the table dinged. All eyes stared at it as if none of us believed it had actually sounded.

Quinn snatched it off the table and flipped it open. “Are we having fun yet?”

He growled low and flipped the phone shut. He tossed it back on the table, even more frustrated than before.

“So that confirms that this is all a fucking game to them.
